What I like about Google Custom Search Engine is that I am able to customize the search to only the website that I want to display. By providing the student with this search engine, you are ensuring that they are searching the web safely. I also think that by using a Custom Search Engine you are limiting the number of irrelevant site for you student. This enables the students to be more productive with their time spent on the computer. What I also like about CSE is that I was able to add sites with any trouble. This is a very useful tool for both teachers and students.

Google Tools II - Post 5/5 Custom Google Search
Nothing but success this morning. After watching Andy's video I was able to add my custom search engine to my site. Andy's directions were great! I just kept pausing to complete each step.

Post 4/5 Back to being frustrated/Custom Search Engine
I don't even know where to start! After getting off the Google Sites roller coaster, I guess the ride will continue with the custom search engine. When I got home tonight was so excited to post my website and begin working on the custom search engine. I rolled up my sleeves and going. I think the idea of a custom search engine is great.
For the past two years I have done a fiction/nonfiction unit of study on Turtles. What I have done in the past is researched websites one at a time. A custom search engine would give the students the freedom to search independently, while knowing the are not getting sidetracked by something they should been on. By creating a search engine the students will have the opportunity to create an independent study piece to this unit. Some many great opportunities are available by creating you own search engine. Sadly due to technical difficulties I am unable to finish the process!
And at 9:20pm our white knight rode into save the day. Here's hoping that tomorrow with the help of one of Andy's magic videos, I will be able to get this search engine going. It has been an eight hour day and i'm done!

Success at last..well almost
Well today was much better day in the land of Google. I am still cracking myself up from last nights blog 2/5. Apparently Christina and I are the only two laughing. Thanks for reading my blog Pehush!
Today I devoted most of the day to my website. I actually started all over again..and yes for those of you who are counting I now have 4 sites....so what if 3 of them are total garbage!!! I opened the computer this morning with great apprehension, still stinging from my google marathon yesterday! I took a deep breath and off I went, trying to remember that this battle was going to be won one page at a time. First step was to find some inspiration. So many of you have done such an incredible job...kudos to all! Then I dove in rummaging through templates and premade sites. Once I found the right one for me, I was determined to make progress. I started off by playing it safe on my first page. I didn't want to become aggravated by the good ol textbox and pixels. As I went along I found my self daring to put more in....calendars, links, animated graphics. Four pages later I can honestly say it is starting to take shape.
Today was a NO APP day. I did manage to read a couple of blogs by Andy and Christina. Both were well written and had a great deal of insight to share. In Andy's blog he was able to generate a really good discussion about online/hybrid classes. I for one have nothing but praise for this type of learning. I have done some really great things in my classroom because of what I have learned from the both of them. In Christina's blog I love the facebook vs google theme. I had to giggle when she mentioned hooking up the modem to the phone. As kid I remember my dad doing the same thing and my siblings holding there breath waiting with anticipation. Look at us now....yes the beauty of social networking .....tempting us to put in all out there for others to see! Have a great night!

Sites, apps busy day! Post 2/5
I got off to a very early start this morning. I was determined to conquer my website. Of course things never goes as smoothy as you plan and by 7:00am I felt like I was climbing a mountain. I felt that items I thought would be so simple really gave me some trouble, especially in the editing department. In navigating google sites I found myself creating 3 different webpages....total insanity! Use a template, not use a template.. I just couldn't get it together. In the end I did choose one of my sites to expand on more. Realizing though that this work of art was going to take some time...changing, adding perfecting. Needless to say it remains a work in progress. The name of the game is to give it the time it deserves and just keep plugging away!
I also had stated in my post that I had looked a some apps today. Thanks to some colleagues...way to go Christina Pehush, I was able to follow up on some useful tools for my students. I did like that I was able to prepare some materials for some children that I am working with this summer. We'll see how it goes tomorrow. For now I am putting Google+ to bed....I was kinda hoping the kids would be sleeping first!
My emotions throughout the day.....
Woke up, ready to roll.......

After hour #1, realized this wasn't going to be a piece of cake!
Hour #4....need I say anymore!
Hour #6 .... my husband came home and asked how it was going. Needless to say he left the room!
Hour #7.....Google sites wore me out!
Hour #STOPPED COUNTING...Researched some good apps and finished on a good note!
Good night Google+

Google Tools II - Post 1/5
Well we are off and running! I found myself becoming a bundle of nerves today in class. There was some difficulty getting in to Google+. Thanks to Andy though all was taken care of! I came home after class excited to updated my circle and dive into all of the resources that Google has to offer. I thought that the Sparks video was really neat and would like to see if this could be applied in the classroom. Really liked Erin's Free Technology for Teachers: Google Tutorials ». I have used Google Docs for many things including my lesson plans. I probably haven't even scratch the surface as to the many things I can use Google for in my classroom. I also took some time tonight reviewing my webpage on school center. Trying to look at the items that are really important. This will enable me to incorporate then into my Google Site. I will begin to work on my site tomorrow.
